WYFL Cheerleading By-Laws  

 

Mission Statement:   To organize the orderly conduct and participation of cheerleading in the Waynesville Youth Football League (WYFL), by teaching basic and advanced cheerleading techniques, teamwork, commitment, sportsmanship and the love of cheerleading.

 

Purpose:    This document is intended to provide a set of by-laws which the WYFL cheerleaders, parents, volunteers, and coaches must abide by in order to participate.

 

Scope:   This document will be limited to definitions of league management and operation listed here in.

 

Cheerleading Management Methodology: The WYFL cheerleading program will be managed by an internal staff, overseen by the WYFL board. This staff will be comprised of three positions as listed below:

 

Director of Cheerleading:  (Adrienne Echelberry) - The Director of Cheerleading shall oversee all internal activity and provide leadership. Responsibilities will be to document season plan, activities, produce forms, programs, rosters, chair meetings, and provide all communications from the league.

 

Assistant Director / Coach Liaison:  (Jamie Croker) - The assistant director shall act in the absence of the director and provide administration and leadership in any activity. As the coach liaison, she will bring all issues, comments, and suggestions from cheerleading coaches to the Director for review and discussion.

 

Football Director:   (Micheal Wright) - Football director will act as liaison between the Football and cheerleading divisions.  Responsibilities will include ensuring constant communication between Cheerleading Director and WYFL Board, ensuring season schedule is given to Director in a timely manner, and participating in investigations and reporting findings to the WYFL board for discussion.

 

Voting:  Director of Cheerleading and Assistant Director will vote internally on operating decisions for the cheerleading division.  The Director of Cheerleading will gather all information and bring her recommendation to the WYFL Board on all disciplinary actions. The board will review all information and vote those actions.

Article I: Certification of Cheerleaders

A.     A cheerleader must meet the grade/age/registration/health physical requirements as specified by the League for the applicable grade.

B.     A cheerleader that is enrolled in the upcoming school year that is an 8th grader shall be ineligible to play in the league. A cheerleader that will be 15 years old on or before July 31st of the current year will be ineligible to cheer for the league. Cheer Mascots (Optional) will be between grades K-1, and cheerleaders to be placed on a squad, will be between grades 2-8.

C.    There are two unequivocal definitions of an ineligible cheerleader, from which there are no appeals:  (1) Overage or underage. (2) Falsification of any documents.

D.    Before a cheerleader is placed on a cheer squad, the League must have all paperwork (physical and signed waiver, provided by the League) and all fees must be paid.

 

Article II: Coaches requirements and Responsibilities

A.      As this is meant to be a positive experience for the cheerleader and the parents, parents of players will receive some preference during the appointment of coaches. This does not mean a parent will always get the selection, but when there are no overwhelming factors for choosing an individual without a player, the parent should get to coach. Note: Bad language, poor attitude or sportsmanship will not be acceptable, and shall be grounds for removal. Note: All final decisions on coaches will be made and determined by the WYFL board.

 

B.      Coaching selection criteria goes as follows: a. Parents of a player that have successfully coached in the league, parents/volunteers without kids in the league that have successfully coached in the league, parents of a player that are new to the league, and parents/volunteers without players in the league but want to help.

 

C.      A team's coaching staff is in complete charge of the team whenever it is together on the practice or playing field, or together for any team function, such as a banquet. The coaching staff is under the direction of the Head Coach; other coaches are called Assistant Coaches. The following applies to all coaches:

 

D.     A team may have a maximum of three (3) coaches.

 

E.      A Head Coach and first assistant must be at least 21 years of age.  A registered adult representative (21 years or older) must be present for practices, games and functions.

 

F.       All Coaches must have a current National Youth Sports Coaches Association Card for Cheerleading. Cards will be checked at the first game of the season. Coaches can obtain their card at : www.nays.org

 

G.     All coaches and assistant coaches must attend the coaches’ brief and camp to be eligible for the season, as a head coach or assistant coach on the field.

 

H.     All coaches must be available for additional duties, in support of the league during the season. Additional duties will include, but are not limited to; game day set-up, camp, league fundraisers, concessions, equipment issue, clean up and other league events passed down from the committee.

 

Article III: Formation of Squads

            A.      All cheer squads will be put together by the cheerleading committee. Factors for determining squads will include, coaches of cheerleaders, siblings, individual skill levels, and age/grade of cheerleaders. Once squads are determined no changes will be allowed unless reviewed and approved by the cheerleading committee. NO EXCEPTIONS.

 

           B.      The only players, which will be placed on a certain team, are the Coaches and Assistant Coaches Kid or Kids. No Exceptions!!!

 

Article IV: Disciplinary Actions / Investigations  

            A. All disciplinary actions/Investigations will follow the same rules as the WYFL football league by-laws. Any questions are concerns will be addressed by the Cheerleading committee.

 

Article V:  Misc rules and regulations

            A. If there is any questions about rules or regulations that pertain to the WYFL, review the Football by laws.
